Messaging, Value Proposition & ICP

Say what you sell and who it is for in one sentence, and that sentence holds when a prospect repeats it back to someone who was not in the room. Right now the pitch changes depending on who you are talking to, which is why prospects leave the call saying “let me think about it” and why two people describing your company would describe two different companies.

Is this you?

Two diagnostic selections route to this box.

“Weak value proposition, trying to be all things to all people” is the direct one: the founder already knows the offer is doing too much and wants it cut down to something defensible.

“Unclear ICP” tends to arrive alongside it.

Both trace to the same root.

When the offer is fuzzy you cannot say no to the wrong prospect, so the pipeline fills with people who were never going to buy, the cycle drags while everyone waits for a fit that is not there, and the message only ever converts when you personally carry it.

Outcome we want to see

  • Offer statement: one line naming what you sell, the buyer it is for, and the problem it removes.
  • Product ladder with a confirmed lead rung: priced to the value it creates, not the hours it takes, anchored on the cost of your buyer’s status quo.
  • Buyer language bank: 10+ of your buyers’ own verbatim phrases, pulled from real emails and calls.
  • Locked positioning statement: the one-liner plus the architecture under it (who you are for, who you are deliberately not for, the alternative you displace, the value that follows). ICP is interrogated and captured inside it, not handed over as a persona doc.
  • Power statement: the positioning turned into a sales-ready line you actually say in a conversation.

Sign-off is behavioural: done when you can say the positioning unprompted, to a peer, without reading it, and it has landed in one real conversation.

Build it to run on your AI

Ships as your Context Pack — named, AI-loadable files (icp.md, offer.md, voice.md) you drop into your own Claude or equivalent — so every message, post, email and proposal your AI writes afterwards is built from your real positioning and your buyers’ own language.

Routing

Value proposition routes mechanically — the problem is already named at the right altitude. ICP routes through conversation: we don’t diagnose ICP from a survey or checkbox, we get there by talking to you, folded into the same positioning work.

Where it fits

The on-ramp. Everything downstream (presence, sales system) inherits from this.

How the engagement runs

Four sessions, sometimes a fifth for a second pass: offer & rung → buyer language → positioning build (Dunford’s five layers) → lock (you say it back unprompted).

What you need first

The founder in the room, willingness to cut the offer down, access to real call transcripts and emails.

Enlist support

Four sessions to lock the offer, the ICP, and a line you can say without notes.
