In this video Diana Larsen and Neal Taylor discuss the prospective analysis, how to facilitate it during a Liftoff, and which activities could follow on if needed.
What is a prospective analysis?
The prospective analysis sheds light on where we are in the context of time. What are the things that could potentially happen in the future, and whether these events have upside or downside for the team. Crucially: which of these events do we need to act upon today, which may mean altering our intentions.
How to facilitate the prospective analysis during a Liftoff?
Ask team members to surface as many potential outcomes as possible regardless of likely or not, adding each to a post-it. Remember to encourage the team to think about positive outcomes too. Group the outcomes, if need be, into themes.
Refer to the prospective analysis template and start to map these outcomes according to how likely it is to happen and what the potential upside or downside might be for the team or organisation.
If there is anything that impacts the team right now (requiring mitigation) then initiate this conversation with leadership.
Potential follow on activities
Following on, facilitators can potentially integrate the following activities depending on team needs and time:
- Risk logging
- Circles and soup retrospective
